Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - The 2010 Major League Soccer Cup champion Colorado Rapids signed midfielder Steven Emory and defender Mike Holody on Tuesday. Emory was among 57 players to take part in a three-day tryout with the Rapids in January. He played at Metro State College, and becomes the first player in the school's history to sign with MLS. Bent moved into coaching after a serious knee injury brought a premature end to his playing days. He earned 32 caps with Canada's national team and played for clubs in the United States, Germany and England. His last professional club was Plymouth Argyle in England where he spent three seasons, helping Plymouth win the Division Three Championship in 2002, and the Division Two Championship in 2004. Before moving to England, he played for two years in Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids.

Commerce City, CO (Sports Network) - The Colorado Rapids re-signed forward Andre Akpan and midfielder Jamie Smith, the Major League Soccer club announced on Friday. Originally Colorado's top selection in the 2010 draft, Akpan appeared in one game, playing 13 minutes during his rookie campaign. Smith joined the Rapids in July of 2009 and has appeared in 26 games, scoring one goal while adding nine assists.

twork) - Chivas USA announced that Greg Vanney has joined the club as an assistant coach to serve under new head coach Robin Fraser. The 36-year-old Vanney has spent 10 seasons in Major League Soccer as a player with the Los Angeles Galaxy, FC Dallas, the Colorado Rapids and D.C. United. Vanney was a three-time MLS All-Star selection and made a total of 270 appearances in the regular season, scoring 22 goals with 23 assists.
