Improved New York, Dallas gunning for result at Red Bull Arena

Soccer Betting Lines

04/16/2010 - Harrison, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Red Bull New York returns home after a two- game road trip when it hosts FC Dallas in Major League Soccer action at Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

New York (2-1-0) looked impressive in its first two league fixtures this season, earning 1-0 victories - including a road win at Seattle. But the club fell flat, 0-2, at Chivas USA a week ago.

"We just didn't put it together," New York midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic told MLSsoccer.com after the match. "Our passing wasn't good enough to break them down."

Coincidentally, Ubiparipovic could find his spot in the starting lineup in jeopardy after Red Bull acquired Danish midfielder Brian Nielsen this week. The 23-year-old will probably find himself starting on the left side if his paperwork goes through in time for Saturday's game.

"Brian is a very promising young player who has pace and can deliver quality service with both feet," New York General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler said. "We are thrilled to sign him and he will immediately compete for a spot in our starting lineup."

The Hoops (0-0-2) are coming off a 2-2 come-from-behind draw vs. the Columbus Crew last weekend at home. FCD's Eric Avila scored the equalizer in stoppage time to earn a share of the points after the Crew's Guillermo Barros Schelotto scored the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute.

"To give up a PK there at the end and to come back and tie it the way we did, I think shows a lot of character and determination by our team," FCD coach Schellas Hyndman told MLSsoccer.com. "I don't think last year's team would have been able to do that. I think this years team is so much more focused and conditioned to get results."

Both teams look improved early in the 2010 season after failing to make the playoffs in '09. Both will also be under a lot of pressure to get a result on Saturday, with Dallas winless in two games to start the season and New York playing just its second game at its new soccer-specific arena, a place it's trying to make a fortress.

Red Bull will be without veteran defenders Chris Albright and Kevin Goldthwaite, and midfielder Giorgi Chirgadze, while midfielder Carl Robinson and forward John Wolyniec are questionable with injuries. Midfielder Austin da Luz is expected to be available with a groin strain.

Dallas will be without defender Kyle Davies and midfielder Marvin Chavez because of injuries.
