04/11/2010 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ryan Carter scored twice, as the Anaheim Ducks routed the Edmonton Oilers, 7-2, in the final game of the season for both teams and the last game of the 2009-10 NHL regular season.
Steve Eminger and Kyle Chipchura each had a goal and assist for the Ducks, who snapped a three game slide to end the season at 39-32-11. Jonas Hiller started between the pipes and allowed one goal on 19 shots before leaving in the second period with an apparent injury. Curtis McElhinney entered and made 11 saves the rest of the way.
Jeff Deslauriers gave up all seven goals on 45 shots for the Oilers, who ended their season with 62 points and a 27-47-8 record, by far the worst in the league. It was Edmonton's worst season since 1992-93, when it went 26-50-8 for 60 points.
Carter and Eminger struck just 32 seconds apart early in the first period, but Mike Comrie got Edmonton on the board at 8:59, as he skated backward with the puck to the right side of the crease and put the puck past Hiller.
However, Matt Beleskey scored about 4 1/2 minutes later to make it 3-1 going into the first intermission.
Then, just 16 seconds into the middle period with Anaheim on the power play, Teemu Selanne scored his 27th goal of the season. The veteran reached several milestones in this his 17th season. He recorded his 600th career goal and surpassed Jari Kurri for most goals by a Finnish player.
Selanne addressed the crowd after the game in regards to his future in the NHL, saying he has time to think about it and, "Let's see what happens."
Selanne's goal was the only score of the middle period, and 2:50 into the third Ryan Whitney got the Oilers within two.
But Carter muscled out an Oiler defender in the slot to score at 9:34, and two minutes later George Parros made it 6-2 with his fourth goal of the season. Chipchura's shorthanded goal with under four minutes left completed the scoring.
