Galaxy's Donovan named Player of the Week

10/06/2009 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 29.

Donovan scored the game-winner and only goal in the Galaxy's 1-0 victory over Chicago Fire on Friday, helping L.A. clinch a playoff berth.

Donovan had not scored since Aug. 19 in a 2-0 victory over the Fire. His 11th of the season helped secure a postseason spot for Los Angeles, its first since winning the 2005 MLS Cup.

The Galaxy improved to 11-6-11 with 44 points. L.A. is tied atop the West with Houston Dynamo, but currently hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Since joining the club in 2005, Donovan has scored 63 career goals and is only seven shy of tying Cobi Jones (70) for the all-time club record.

This marks Donovan's 10th Player of the Week award and his first since Week 28 of the 2008 season.

L.A. is off until Oct 18 when it visits Houston.
