Braves return home with win over Santana, Mets

Baseball Betting Lines

08/02/2010 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Chipper Jones homered in support of Tim Hudson's six innings of work in Atlanta's 4-1 victory over New York in the first of a three-game set.

Jones blasted a solo shot in the seventh inning to tie Juan Gonzalez for 37th place all-time with 434 home runs, and Rick Ankiel chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs batted in, as the Braves bounced back from two tough losses in Cincinnati Saturday and Sunday.

Hudson (12-5) labored through his outing but yielded only one run on six hits while walking three and striking out three for Atlanta, which improved to a major league-best 35-13 at home. Billy Wagner set down the side in order in the ninth to earn his 25th save of the season.

Johan Santana (8-6) lasted seven frames in defeat, giving up all four runs on nine hits while he walked two and struck out a season-high 11 for the Mets, who have dropped three out of four.

"It was a tough one," said Santana about the loss. "I came here and I knew that I had to step up. I didn't do my job because to get a win here would put us closer to these guys, instead it is the opposite. I tried to do my best but it didn't work out."

Omar Infante started the home first with a single, moved to second base when Jason Heyward walked, advanced to third on a Jones fielder's choice grounder and scored on a Matt Diaz double to left.

Jones was then thrown out at the plate trying to score on an Alex Gonzalez ground ball to second base. Troy Glaus worked a walk to load the bases for Ankiel, who delivered a two-run single to right field to make it 3-0. It was his first hit since joining the Braves in a trade on Saturday.

The Braves put runners at the corners with one out in the third but could not add to their lead as Ankiel and David Ross both took a called third strike.

Meanwhile, the Mets left two runners on in the first, stranded Luis Castillo at third base in the second inning and left another pair in the fourth after Santana struck out.

The visitors finally broke through in the fifth when Jose Reyes led off with a single, advanced to second base on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on a Carlos Beltran double to rightfield to cut the lead to 3-1.

There was no further scoring until Jones teed off on a 1-1 pitch and belted it out to centerfield for his first career long ball off Santana and a three-run Braves' advantage.

"I don't care how old you are you can use a confidence boost," said Jones when asked about the significance of the home run. "It was a good feeling. After about the 14th or 15th changeup he threw me, I finally decided to sit on one and finally got him."

Jonny Venters worked a perfect seventh inning behind Hudson and gave way to Takashi Saito, who retired the first two hitters in the eighth. Jeff Francoeur and pinch-hitter Chris Carter singled before pinch-hitter Josh Thole grounded out to end the threat.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
