04/09/2010 - Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Travis Snider and Jose Bautista spearheaded another ninth-inning Toronto comeback, and the Blue Jays scored twice in the ninth to down the Orioles, 7-6, in Baltimore's 2010 home opener.
After the Orioles scored once in the eighth to forge ahead, Mike Gonzalez (0-2) came on to save the game for the hosts; however, he walked Edwin Encarnacion to start the frame, and Encarnacion went to second on a wild pitch. Snider followed with a double to the gap in right-center, plating the tying run, and Snider moved to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Bautista capped the comeback with a deep sacrifice fly to center, easily scoring Snider for a 7-6 lead. Kevin Gregg came on in the home half and retired Baltimore in order for his first save with Toronto.
Snider and Bautista each finished with a pair of hits for the Blue Jays, who posted three runs in the ninth inning on Friday to beat the Rangers, 3-1. Alex Gonzalez added a solo homer in Toronto's third straight win.
Brandon Morrow made his Jays debut after being acquired from Seattle and allowed five runs, four hits and five walks in five frames. Casey Janssen (2-0) notched the win despite giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Miguel Tejada went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and four total RBI for the Orioles, who have lost three of four to start the season. Brad Bergesen yielded five runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings in the start, and Gonzalez blew his second save in three chances this season.
Each team scored three times in the first inning.
Toronto loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk, and Lyle Overbay plated the Jays' first run with a sacrifice fly. John Buck followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 cushion.
Baltimore came right back, filling the bases with nobody out on two walks and a hit batsman. Tejada followed with a two-run single up the middle, and Matt Wieters walked two batters later to re-load the bases. Another walk to Nolan Reimold forced in the tying run before Garrett Atkins grounded into an inning- ending double play.
Gonzalez put Toronto back in front with a leadoff homer to begin the third, and Adam Lind's RBI single in the fifth provided a two-run cushion.
The Orioles quickly tied it in the home fifth, as Nick Markakis doubled and came around to score on Tejada's first home run of the season.
Baltimore then took its first lead of the game in the eighth off Janssen. Wieters walked leading off and was replaced by Felix Pie on the basepaths. After the next two batters flied out, Cesar Izturis singled to center, and Pie was able to race all the way home when the catcher Buck was unable to handle the throw from the outfield.
Game Notes
Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts left the game in the second inning with a strained abdominal muscle and was replaced by Julio Lugo...Every game for Baltimore this season has been decided by one run...These two teams split 18 meetings last season...Toronto has now won as many games in Baltimore in 2010 as it did in all of 2009 (1-8)...Blue Jays second baseman Aaron Hill missed his second straight game (hamstring)...The Orioles had won eight of their last nine home openers...Toronto outfielder Vernon Wells, who had four homers in his first three games, went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The most popular sports to bet on are NFL and college football along with NBA and NCAA basketball. There are multiple betting opportunities within those sports, beginning with the basic wager on a game’s outcome (also called betting the side). College Football Point spreads are used in both football and basketball in an attempt to even the attractiveness of each team in a match-up. ( See our article detailing how and why point spreads are made)
But you could also simply bet on the money line, or straight-up winner of the game. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides. While money line gambling is an attractive option for football and basketball bettors who only care about picking a winner, it is the primary option for those bettors who enjoy wagering on MLB baseball and individual sports like boxing, tennis, golf and racing events such as NASCAR. ( More details on playing the Money Line)
Another bet across all major team sports including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey involves wagering on the amount of scoring in a game, called an Over/Under total. For example, the Over/Under total on Super Bowl XXXIX was 48, which means a bettor could wager whether there would be more or less than 48 points scored by both teams combined in the game.
The final score of Super Bowl XXXIX was 24-21; the scoring of both teams added up to 45, which means the game went Under . So Under bettors won, and Over bettors lost.
Sports gambling doesn’t end there. Betting sides and totals are the most common wagers available everywhere, but many sportsbooks also offer future bets on big upcoming events like who will win next year’s Super Bowl and what movie will win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
The main advantage of futures is that you can get appealing odds by betting far in advance. For example, with NFL futures you often can get much higher odds on a team by betting before the season even starts. A NFL future bet on a team to win the Super Bowl odds might be 20/1 in the preseason; but by midseason, their odds might decrease to 10/1 if they turn out to be legitimate championship contenders.
Involves one individual wager, whether it be on your team to cover the point spread, to win the game straight-up on the money line, or to go over/under the total.
